About Us
Both Brian and I have grown up around dogs our entire lives. From a young age, Brian began hunting with his family and friends. As he got older, he came to enjoy waterfowl hunting. I was more of a dove hunter with only a little waterfowl experience under my belt. When we met in 2016, we shared a love of labradors and decided we would get a third black lab, Echo. We joined the Tulsa Retriever Club and decided that we would train Echo for Hunt Tests. Before long, we added another lab, Cas, to the group.
At the time, Brian worked a full-time delivery job, and I worked in retail management for Petco. But our passion for dogs kept growing. Together, we added more dogs to our family. Brian also picked up a position running European Shoots with Echo at Show Me Birds Hunting Resort in Baxter Springs, Kansas. This started a whole new love of working dogs. Quickly, we went from five dogs to 14 dogs in just a year – adding several pointers and setters to our family.
Working at Petco, I learned much about dog behaviors, nutrition, and other care information that I loved sharing with others. So we began boarding dogs and then added in obedience training. As we kept gaining clients, we started Standing Water Kennels while working full-time jobs and with Brian working weekends at Show Me Birds.
In the summer of 2021, Brian became a full-time trainer. He was blessed to be able to train with a few different seasoned professional trainers over the summer and fall of 2021. He has started guiding upland and waterfowl hunts along with training obedience and hunting dogs.
Now I am the Director of our local library and train dogs on the side. I assist with the hunting dogs, but my main focus is obedience and our boarding clients.
Our two oldest kids, Braylin and Drake, are part of our kennel team. We call them our Kennel Techs. They help feed, water, walk dogs, and clean. Both of them love to go with Brian to help on guided hunts when they can.
Brian and I travel at least twice a year to different training seminars to keep learning as much as possible about what we do. We can never know too much, only too little. We have embraced the idea that every dog is different and every client has different needs. We aim to help as many dogs and their humans as possible to strengthen their relationships through proper training.
