I’m a dog aunt to two 3 year old pups named Rebel and Bixby. These two can be a handful sometimes, but I love them so much. My older sister does a lot of work with training her dog, but my brother is pretty relaxed with his so there is always this disconnect between what the dogs respond to. I’m always interested in learning how to work with both pups to help out my siblings and also get to spend time with them when I dog sit. For the most part they are both well behaved and used to us as my siblings adopted them when they were about 6 months, but there’s always time to learn more!

You are so correct that there is a disconnect. Dogs need consistency. When you have one owner that sticks to the standards and one that doesn’t the dog has no idea what to do. Often this will lead to behavior issues because the dog is confused. Often the dog will consider itself above the more lax parent. As pack animals, dogs thrive when they know their place in the hierarchy.
