Dogs: They’re More Than Pets, They’re Family

In the fourth grade, we adopted a dog. Her name was Jackie, a papillon with the cutest ears. She was the sweetest and was always there when we were feeling down. When we were having issues with my father, she’d make sure to pee on his shoes and around his dresser to remind him that she was better than him. Having her around was a blast, even when we had to put her in booties she hated and carry her around for walks in the snow. She died in 2016, after twelve years with us, and in that time, she taught me so much about things I never knew dogs could understand. Without her, I don’t know if I’d be the person I am today.

  1. Thank you for sharing Jackie’s story. She sounds like a little firecracker! Most little dogs are. It seems those with the biggest personalities are often in the tiniest bodies.
